Swedens population 2021 – population changes

Population growth in Sweden remains low in the first six months of 2021

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2021-08-18 9.30

In the first six months of 2021, Sweden’s population increased by 29 953 people, which is 5 152 more than in the corresponding period in 2020. On 30 June 2021, the population of Sweden was 10 409 248. Compared with last year, the number of births in the first six months of 2021 was marginally higher, while the number of deaths was considerably lower. Furthermore, immigration decreased and emigration increased compared with last year. The main reason for a larger population growth in 2021 than in 2020 was that the adjustment item was exceptionally large because a large volume of immigrations in the fourth quarter of 2020 were not reported to Statistics Sweden until after the final 2020 population registers were established.
