Swedens population 2017 – population changes:

New Swedish citizens from 160 countries

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2018-03-21 9.30

Many foreign citizens have been granted Swedish citizenship in the past two years. In 2017, 68 898 persons from over 160 countries became Swedish citizens, which is an increase of 14 percent compared with the previous record, in 2016. A large part of this increase can be explained by the large immigration from Syria in recent years. Syrian citizens were the largest group to be granted Swedish citizenship, 8 635 persons, which is nearly twice as many as in the previous year.
