Inflation rate according to CPIF 1.8 percent

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2019-04-11 9.30

The inflation rate according to the CPI with a fixed interest rate (CPIF) was 1.8 percent in March 2019, down from 1.9 percent in February. The CPIF increased by 0.2 percent from February to March. In the corresponding period last year, the CPIF rose by 0.3 percent. The inflation rate according to the CPI was 1.9 percent in March 2019.

The increase in the CPI from February to March 2019 was mainly due to higher prices for food (0.6 percent), clothing (1.5 percent) and fuel (2.7 percent), which all contributed upwards by 0.1 percentage point each.

These increases were offset by lower prices for electricity (-2.4 percent), books (-15.7 percent) and package holidays (-6.7 percent), which all contributed downwards by 0.1 percentage point each. The yearly nationwide book sale effected the CPI unusually little this year. It was the weakest price decrease on books in March since 2014.

The CPI for March 2019 was 331.79 (1980=100).

The inflation rate according to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was 1.8 percent in March 2019, down from 1.9 percent in February. The HICP increased by 0.2 percent from February to March. In the corresponding period last year, the HICP increased by 0.3 percent.

Information on package holidays

In January 2019, a new price collection method was implemented for measuring package holidays. The new data source enables larger selection and more detailed weighting information. Statistics Sweden has calculated a price index for package holidays that shows what the price development would have been in 2018 based on the new data source.
