Service prices unchanged in fourth quarter 2017

The Service Producer Price Index remained unchanged from the third to the fourth quarter of 2017. The corresponding change in the previous quarter was a decrease of 0.1 percent. Since the fourth quarter of 2016, the Service Producer Price Index has increased by 1.2 percent. The corresponding annual rate in the previous quarter was 1.7 percent.
From the next publication, reporting in the statistical news will be based on SPIN 2015, with base year 2015=100.
The main upward contributors in the quarter were rising prices for computer consultancy services and management consulting services, contributing 0.1 percentage point each. This was offset by declining prices for real estate services and other transportation and support services, which contributed downward movement by 0.1 percentage point each.

Definitions and explanations
New product classification
From the publication of the first quarter 2017, the Producer Price Index for Services (SPPI) is published in accordance with both SPIN 2007 and SPIN 2015. Price indices in accordance with both product classifications will be available during 2017 and 2018. In 2019, price indices will only be available in accordance with SPIN 2015. It is recommended that users start applying SPIN 2015 as soon as possible.
