Statistical Database

As from the publication of index for January 2021, Statistics Sweden will publish Producer and import price index (PPI) with new base year 2020=100. This makes it possible to publish more product groups. All markets will be selectable in the same table. Index with base year 2015=100 will continue to be updated until the publication of the index for December 2021.

Bränsleprisrapport (fuel price report) discontinued

As of January 2021, Statistics Sweden will no longer produce the "Bränsleprisrapport". This output included a suite of average prices covering Diesel MK1; Heating Oil; Petrol MK1 95 and 98 octane; and E85. The report provided average prices including and excluding respective duties and taxes.

Proposed alternative price indices:

Average prices including and excluding tax for Diesel MK1 could be replaced by the CPI price index for diesel and the ITPI price index for diesel at KN8 level 27101943.

Average prices including and excluding tax for Heating Oil MK3 could be replaced by the CPI price index for fuel oil.

Average prices including and excluding tax for Petrol MK1 95 and 98 octane could be replaced by the CPI price index for petrol 95 or petrol 98.

Average prices including and excluding tax for E85 could be replaced by the CPI price index for E85.

Price indices from the CPI include both duties and value added tax, that is, the prices that households pay at the pump. Price indices from the CPI can be found via Statistics Sweden's public statistical database:

Price indices from the ITPI consist of two price indices weighted together. These indices cover both domestically produced and imported petroleum products respectively and their initial sale on the Swedish market. These price indices are exclusive of duties and value added tax. The ITPI price index for diesel at KN8 level 27101943 can be downloaded from the table:

Adjusted compilation method for weights in 2021

The weights used to compile the Producer and import price index are updated on an annual basis, when publishing indices for January. Normally, these updates are made on the basis of information on production and imports during the year (y-2). This because data for the year (y-1) is not available at the time of publication. Normally, data for the year (y-2) is assumed to approximate data for the year (y-1). However, in 2021, Statistics Sweden will deviate from this practice and take into account shifts in the economy during 2020 when compiling the weights. The reason for this change in practice is that data for 2019 are not considered to be representative as a base year for 2021, given some of the large shifts in the economy observed in 2020 due to the pandemic. Adjustment will be based on data from the Production value index at Statistics Sweden for the first 10 months of 2020.

Electricity will as of 2021 change name from 35.11 Electricity to 35.14 Trade services of electricity in the Statistical Database. This to make the name and content coherent with the classification.
