Changes in the last month
The monthly rate of change was positive in the export and import markets, but negative in the domestic market in July. This resulted in a positive monthly rate of change for both Producer Price Index and Price Index for Domestic Supply during the same period.
The largest negative contribution in the domestic market came from lower prices for trade services of electricity. Prices also fell for other organic basic chemicals. This downturn was offset by higher prices for refined petroleum products, plastic products and fabricated metal products.
In the export market the main upward contributions came from higher prices for refined petroleum products and paper and paper products. Other inorganic basic chemicals, plastic products, basic iron and steel, other machinery and equipment and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers also contributed to the price increase. This upturn was offset by price decreases for generation of electricity and plastics in primary forms.
The main contribution to the increase in the import market came from higher prices for crude oil. Prices also rose for refined petroleum products, computer, electronic and optical products and basic iron and steel. Other inorganic basic chemicals, fabricated metal products, electrical equipment, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and generation of electricity also contributed to the price increase. This upturn was partially offset by price decreases for other organic basic chemicals.
