Food sales 2016:

Sales in all food groups increased in 2016

Swedish sales of food and beverages reached SEK 271 billion during 2016. It is an increase of 4.4 percent or SEK 11 billion compared to 2015. This increase stemmed from an increase in sales volume of 3.1 percent and price increases of food and beverages of 1.2 percent during the year.

All groups within food and beverages increased its sales during 2016. The largest increases were found within fish and sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionary. Fish increased by 6.6 percent between 2015 and 2016 and total sales amounted to SEK 12 billion. The increase in fixed prices was 2.1 percent.

Sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionary increased by 6.5 percent, of which 1.2 percent was due to higher prices and 5.3 percent was an increase in sales volume.

The sales of candy per capita amounted to SEK 2 109 in 2016. That corresponds to a weekly sale of SEK 41 per capita, an increase of SEK 3 per week compared to 2015.
