Sales increased in all food groups in 2017

In 2017, sales of food and beverages amounted to SEK 281 billion, which is an increase of 3.7 percent, or SEK 10 billion, compared with 2016. This increase stemmed from a 1.5 percent increase in sales volume and 2.2 percent in price increases on food and beverages during the year.

Sales increased in all groups within food and beverages during 2017. The largest increases were in the categories oils and fats, and fruits. Oils and fats increased by 8.6 percent between 2016 and 2017 and total sales amounted to SEK 6.3 billion. The decrease in fixed prices was 1.3 percent.

Fruits increased by 5.1 percent, of which 4.8 percent was due to higher prices and 0.4 percent was an increase in sales volume.

Sales per capita of candy amounted to SEK 2 170 in 2017. This corresponds to weekly per capita sales of SEK 42, an increase of SEK 1 per week compared with 2016. Candy sales were considerably higher than sales per capita of fruit, which amounted to SEK 29 per week. Sales per capita of fruit also increased, by SEK 2 per week.
