Sales of food and beverages increased in 2020

In 2020, sales of food and beverages amounted to SEK 325 billion, up by 6.6 percent, corresponding to SEK 20 billion, from 2019. This increase is due to a 4.6 percent increase in sales volume and a 1.9 percent increase in prices on food and beverages.

In 2020, sales increased in all groups within food and beverages except in the group coffee, tea and cocoa. The largest increases were recorded in the group alcoholic beverages. Sales in this group increased by 13.0 percent in 2020 and amounted to SEK 49 billion. The increase in fixed prices was 11.7 percent.

Sales of non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0.5 percent compared with 2019. This increase came from a 2.7 percent drop in sales volume and a 3.3 percent increase in prices on non-alcoholic beverages.

Per capita sales of sweets amounted to SEK 2 318 in 2020. This corresponds to weekly per capita sales of SEK 45, down by SEK 1 per week compared with 2019. Sales of sweets were considerably higher than per capita sales of fruit, which was SEK 31 per week.
