Household consumption decreased in February 2022

Household consumption decreased by 0.2 percent in February 2022 compared with January 2022, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, calculated in fixed prices and working day adjusted. Compared with February 2021, household consumption increased by 3.4 percent, measured in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures. In the last three-month period, consumption increased by 5.5 percent in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures, compared with the same period a year ago.

The largest weighted negative contribution came from the sector housing, electricity, gas and heating, which decreased by 1.2 percent in fixed prices compared with February a year ago.

Restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services accounted for the largest weighted positive contribution to total consumption and increased by 32.1 percent in fixed prices compared with February a year ago.

The COVID-19 outbreak started to significantly impact household consumption in March 2020, which should be taken into account when comparing annual development statistics.

Prices increased by 3.3 percent according to the consumption deflator.
