Household consumption decreased in October 2022

Household consumption decreased by 0.3 percent in October 2022, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, compared with September 2022. Compared with October 2021, household consumption remained unchanged measured in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures. In the last three-month period, consumption increased by 0.9 percent in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures, compared with the same period a year ago.

The largest weighted positive contribution came from the sector Transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles, which increased by 6 percent in fixed prices compared with October a year ago.

Retail trade, mostly food and beverages accounted for the largest weighted negative contribution to total consumption and decreased by 5.3 percent in fixed prices compared with October a year ago.

The COVID-19 outbreak started to significantly impact household consumption in April 2020, which should be taken into account when comparing annual development statistics.
