Weaker exports of goods in October compared with September

In October 2022, exports of goods increased by 21 percent in value and by 4 percent in volume compared with the same period a year ago. At the same time, imports of goods rose by 28 percent in value and by 4 percent in volume.

"The imports and exports of pharmaceutical products has a strong increase in both value and volume terms, compared with the same period last year" says Elin Bäckström, statistician at Statistics Sweden

Compared with the previous month, Swedish exports of goods decreased by 2 percent in both value and in volume. At the same time Swedish imports of goods increased by 3 percent in value and by 1 percent in volume. The number of weekdays in October 2022 was one less than in September 2022.

Exports of chemicals and rubber products increased by 38 percent in value and by 24 percent in volume, compared with the same period last year. Compared with the previous month, exports of chemicals and rubber products increased by 13 percent in both value and in volume. Within this product area, exports of pharmaceuticals products increased by 59 percent in value and by 53 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, imports of pharmaceuticals products increased by 38 percent in value and by 36 percent in volume.

Exports of mineral fuels and electric current increased by 43 percent in value while they decreased by 1 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. The large difference between the value and volume trends is due to higher prices on petroleum products in October 2022. Compared with the previous month, exports of mineral fuels and electric current decreased by 1 percent in value while they increased by 13 percent in volume.

Exports of machinery and transport equipment increased by 20 percent in value and by 2 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, exports of passenger cars increased by 53 percent in value and by 27 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, exports of passenger cars decreased by 2 percent in value and by 3 percent in volume.

Imports of wood and paper products increased by 32 percent in value while it remained unchanged in volume compared with the same period last year. Compared with the previous month, imports of wood and paper products decreased by 2 percent in value and by 5 percent in volume.

Imports of mineral fuels and electric current increased by 51 percent in value while they decreased by 7 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. The large difference between the value and volume trends is due to higher prices on crude petroleum oils and petroleum products in October 2022. Compared with the previous month, imports of mineral fuels and electric current increased by 12 percent in value and by 20 percent in volume.

Imports of chemicals and rubber products increased by 34 percent in value and by 8 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, imports of pharmaceuticals products increased by 60 percent in value and by 40 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, imports of pharmaceuticals products decreased by 8 percent in value and by 11 percent in volume.
