Net trade balance at SEK 0.3 billion in December

In December 2019, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 116.0 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 115.7 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK 0.3 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 0.3 billion in December 2019, according to preliminary calculations. In December 2018, there was a net trade deficit of SEK 7.2 billion.
The value of exports in December was SEK 116.0 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 115.7 billion. Compared with December 2018, exports increased by 5 percent in value, while imports decreased by 1 percent in value.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 16.9 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 16.6 billion.
The number of weekdays in December 2019 was one more compared with December 2018.
Seasonally adjusted, the net trade shows a surplus of SEK 1.4 billion in December, compared with a surplus of SEK 0.5 billion in November. The corresponding figure for October was a surplus of SEK 0.2 billion.

In 2019, the value of exports of goods increased by 5 percent, and the value of imports of goods increased by 1 percent compared with the corresponding period one year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 1 517.5 billion and imports were valued at SEK 1 497.4 billion, resulting in a net trade surplus of SEK 20.1 billion for 2019. The corresponding net trade balance for 2018 was a deficit of SEK 40.7 billion.

Definitions and explanations
Last month’s import and export values in trade with the EU are estimates based on data provided by a large subset of companies that trade with the EU. Most (95 percent) of the deviation between these estimates and the subsequent outcome lies within the range of SEK -2 billion and SEK 1 billion for both imports and exports.
Import and export values for trade in goods with non-EU countries are based largely on data from Swedish Customs.
