Net trade balance at SEK 10.3 billion in June

In June 2021, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 144.2 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 133.9 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK 10.3 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 10.3 billion in June 2021, according to preliminary calculations. In June 2020, there was a net trade surplus of SEK 5.1 billion.
The value of exports in June 2021 was SEK 144.2 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 133.9 billion. The corresponding values in June 2020 were SEK 119.5 billion for exports and SEK 114.4 billion for imports. Exports of goods have thus increased by 21 percent in value and imports have increased by 17 percent in value compared with May 2020. It is worth noting that the effect of the pandemic on foreign trade in goods can be clearly seen from April 2020, resulting in strong growth figures. The number of weekdays in June 2021 were the same as in June 2020.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 24.7 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 14.4 billion. As from February 2020, the United Kingdom no longer forms part of the group EU Member States and is included, instead, in the group Non-EU Member States.
Seasonally adjusted, net trade showed a surplus of SEK 4.2 billion in June, compared with a surplus of SEK 3.7 billion in May. The corresponding figure for April was a surplus of SEK 3.1 billion.
Net trade (January - June 2021) showed a surplus of SEK 29.5 billion
During this period, the value of exports of goods increased by 10 percent and the value of imports of goods increased by 12 percent compared with the corresponding period one year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 790.9 billion and imports were valued at SEK 761.4 billion, resulting in a net trade surplus of SEK 29.5 billion for January - June 2021. The corresponding net trade balance for these months one year earlier was a surplus of SEK 41.1 billion.

Definitions and explanations
Last month’s import and export values in trade with the EU are estimates based on data provided by a large subset of companies that trade with the EU. Most (95 percent) of the deviation between these estimates and the subsequent outcome lies within the range of SEK -2 billion and SEK 1 billion for both imports and exports.
Import and export values for trade in goods with non-EU countries are based largely on data from Swedish Customs.
