Household consumption increased in March 2024

Household consumption increased by 0.5 percent in March 2024, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, compared with February 2024. Compared with March 2023, household consumption increased by 1.2 percent, measured in constant prices and working day adjusted figures. In the last three-month period, consumption increased by 0.4 percent compared with the same period a year ago, measured in constant prices and working day adjusted figures.
Retail trade, mostly food and beverages accounted for the largest weighted positive contribution to total consumption and increased by 5.3 percent in constant prices compared with March a year ago.
The largest weighted negative contribution came from the sector Transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles which decreased by 7.3 percent in constant prices compared with March a year ago.

When the reference month January 2024 is published, the base year is changed to 2021. This means that the average of the monthly indices in 2021 is 100 (index 2021=100).
