Increased capacity utilisation in industry

Capacity utilisation in industry increased by 1.0 percentage points in the fourth quarter of 2016 compared with the third quarter of 2016 in seasonally adjusted figures.
In connection with publication of the third quarter of 2016, the weighting variable for industrial capacity utilisation has been changed from net turnover to industrial turnover. The new weight is considered to be a more suitable weight for the purpose of the statistics. The time series has been recalculated in connection with the change of weight variable.
The increased capacity utilisation in industry meant that the level of utilisation increased to 89.6 percent in seasonally adjusted figures.
On an annual basis, capacity utilisation increased by 0.9 percentage points compared with the fourth quarter of 2015 and showed an 89.5 percent level of utilisation in calendar adjusted figures.
The figures for the fourth quarter of 2016 are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the change in capacity utilisation for the third quarter of 2016 compared with the second quarter of 2016 has been revised downwards by 0.3 percentage points to a decrease of 0.6 percentage points. The change in capacity utilisation in the third quarter of 2016 compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year has been revised downwards by 0.2 percentage points to a decrease of 0.2 percentage points.

When capacity utilisation for a new quarter is published, the percentage figure for the previous quarter is also revised. The material is normally revised for the previous quarter. This is mainly due to receipt of new and revised information.
