Orders in industry decreased in April

Total orders in industry decreased by 13.9 percent in April 2020 compared with March, in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with April 2019, total orders in industry decreased by 20.7 percent in calendar-adjusted figures.
A majority of the industrial subsectors recorded a negative development on a monthly basis. The largest decrease was in the textile industry, down by 34.2 percent. Total orders in industry decreased on both the domestic and the export market compared with March. The domestic market decreased by 9.9 percent and the export market decreased by 16.9 percent, in seasonally adjusted figures.
Total orders in industry decreased on an annual basis
On an annual basis, total orders in industry decreased by 20.7 percent compared with April 2019, in calendar-adjusted figures. Orders received from customers in Sweden decreased by 13.7 percent and orders received from customers abroad decreased by 25.9 percent.
Total orders in industry in March revised
The figures for April are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the seasonally adjusted monthly development in March compared with February has been revised upwards by 0.1 percentage point to -9.5 percent. The calendar-adjusted development in March compared with March of the previous year has been revised upwards by 0.4 percentage points to -1.6 percent.

Definitions and explanations
Revisions
When the orders index and the turnover index for a new month are published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for between two and four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
