Orders for industry decreased in December

Orders for industry decreased by 0.5 percent in December compared with November in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with December of the previous year, orders for industry increased by 4.7 percent in calendar adjusted figures.
A majority of the industrial sub-sectors showed a negative development in orders. The electronics industry decreased the most, with a decrease of 11.3 percent compared with November. The industry for other transport equipment had the largest increase in orders, with a rise of 41.4 percent. The domestic market showed a slight increase, 0.1 percent, while the export market decreased by 1.1 percent compared with November.
The cumulative yearly development for the whole of 2016 showed a slight decrease, 0.2 percent, compared with 2015 and in calendar adjusted figures. The domestic market increased by 0.7 percent and the export market decreased by 1.0 percent.
On an annual basis, orders increased by 4.7 percent in December compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, in calendar adjusted figures. The domestic market increased by 3.0 percent, and the export market increased by 6.6 percent.
The figures for December are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the change in orders in November compared with October has been revised upwards by 0.5 percentage points to an increase of 0.5 percentage points. The change in orders in November 2016 compared with the corresponding month of the previous year has been revised upwards by 0.3 percentage points to a decrease of 2.8 percent.
It is relevant to analyse the seasonal and calendar adjustments for a better understanding of the statistics.

Definitions and explanations
Revisions
When the orders index and the turnover index for a new month are published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for between two to four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
