Insurance companies’ investment assets increase despite net sales

Insurance companies had net sales of SEK 78 billion in investment assets in the fourth quarter of 2017. However, positive market developments and fusions from abroad led to an increase in total investment assets from SEK 4 584 billion to SEK 4 606 billion.
At the end of the fourth quarter, insurance companies’ investment assets amounted to SEK 4 606 billion. In the fourth quarter, insurance companies’ investment assets increased by SEK 22billion (0.5 percent). This is an increase of SEK 341 billion (8.0 percent) compared with the fourth quarter of 2016.
Life insurance companies accounted for SEK 4 053 billion of total investment assets, which is a decrease of SEK 3 billion during the quarter. Total investment assets of non-life insurance companies amounted to SEK 554 billion, an increase of SEK 26 billion, which is largely explained by fusions from abroad.
Life insurance companies had net sales of capital investments
Life insurance companies had SEK 73 billion in net sales of capital investments during the quarter. Repurchases, loans and other financial investments had the largest impact. However, life insurance companies made net purchases of SEK 9 billion in bonds and SEK 8 billion in shares and participations.
Non-life insurance companies made SEK 5 billion in net sales of capital investments during the period.
