Borrowing in bonds increased

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2018-07-17 9.30

Total borrowing of debt securities in Sweden increased by SEK 16 billion in June and amounted to SEK 8 013 billion at the end of the month. Total borrowing consisted mainly of bonds valued at SEK 6 797 billion that increased by SEK 16 billion in June compared with the previous month.

At the end of June, borrowing in bonds represented 85 percent of total borrowing in debt securities. This borrowing is mainly issued by the bank sector and amounted to a total value of SEK 1 793 billion. In June, borrowing in bonds in the bank sector increased by SEK 20 billion and the increase consisted mainly of bonds denominated in foreign currency valued at SEK 32 billion, while bonds denominated in Swedish kronor decreased by SEK 12 billion. Housing credit institutions sector decreased total borrowing by SEK 13 billion compared with the previous month and amounted to SEK 1 893 billion at the end of June. Mainly bonds denominated in Swedish kronor valued at SEK 8 billion are behind the decrease.

The non-financial and other financial sector increased total borrowing by SEK 1 billion from the previous month and amounted to SEK 1 393 billion at the end of the month. This increase is based on money market instruments valued at SEK 5 billion. In June, borrowing of bonds in the non-financial and other financial sector decreased by SEK 4 billion, mainly consisting of bonds denominated in Swedish kronor valued at SEK 3 billion.

Maturity structure

Debt securities valued at SEK 595 billion in total reach maturity in July. This maturity value is based on money market instruments valued at SEK 578 billion and bonds valued at SEK 17 billion. The maturity value for money market instruments is largely based on securities denominated in Swedish kronor.
