Swedens population 2023 – population changes

Lowest population increase in 17 years

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2023-08-18 8.00

On June 30th, 2023, the population of Sweden was 10 545 300 people. That was 23 000 more people than at the end of 2022. Population growth during the first half of the year was 11 800 people lower compared to the same period in 2022, and the lowest since 2005.

The fact that population growth during the first half of 2023 was lower compared to the same period last year is mainly due to more people emigrating. In addition, a lower adjustment post, consisting largely of late-reported immigration, and fewer children born have contributed to the lower population increase.
