Producer and import price index, January 2017:

Producer prices increased in January

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2017-02-28 9.30

Producer prices increased 0.6 percent between December and January. In the same period, prices increased 0.8 percent on the import market and the domestic market. On the export market prices increased 0.3 percent.

Higher crude oil prices accounted for the largest contribution to the upturn on the import market in January. On the export market, higher prices for basic metals contributed to the increase. Increases were partly offset in the export market by a fall in prices for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers. On the domestic market, higher prices on distribution services of electricity contributed to the increase. This increase was partly offset by the decrease in the price of electricity.

Prices for domestic supply continues to increase

Domestic supply, that is, producer prices on the domestic and import markets together, increased 0.8 percent from December to January and 8.5 percent compared with January last year.

Compared with January last year, producer prices have increased 8.2 percent. In the same period, prices on the export market and the import market increased 10.6 percent and 11.3 percent respectively. A part of the increase can be explained by the depreciation of the Swedish krona against other major currencies. On the domestic market, prices increased 5.8 percent in the same period.
