Producer prices decreased in June 2017

Producer prices decreased 0.8 percent in total between May and June. In the same period, prices decreased 1.0 percent on the export market and 0.6 percent on the import market. Prices decreased 0.4 percent on the domestic market.

Domestic supply, that is, producer prices on the domestic and import markets together, decreased by 0.5 percent from May to June.

Changes during the last month

A seasonally normal change in prices of district heating contributed to the decrease on the domestic market. On the import market, mainly higher prices for crude oil contributed to the downturn. On the export market, lower prices in several groups contributed to the decrease.

Changes during the last year

During the last year, producer prices, that is producer prices on the domestic and export markets together, have increased by 4.8 percent. Prices on the import market and the export market increased by 5.9 percent and by 5.8 percent, respectively. On the domestic market, prices increased by 3.8 percent in the same period. Prices for domestic supply increased by 4.8 percent compared with June last year.

Changes in exchange rates in June

An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency has a tendency to lower or raise export and import prices in Swedish kronor. According to Swedish Customs exchange rates, the Swedish krona appreciated against the US dollar by 2.9 percent, against the British pound by 1.9 percent and against the Norwegian krone by 1.0 percent. The Swedish krona depreciated against the euro by 1.7 percent and against the Danish krone by 1.6 percent.

New product classification

From the publication of indices for April, the Producer and Import Price Index is published according to both SPIN 2007 and SPIN 2015. Price indices according to both product classifications will be available during 2017 and 2018. In 2019, price indices will only be available by SPIN 2015. From the publication of indices for January 2018, the dissemination in the statistical news will be based on SPIN 2015, with base year 2015=100. Users are recommended to start using SPIN 2015 when available.

The differences between the two classifications are small. Most changes occur within divisions in Sections A-E. For more information on both classifications (available only in Swedish) please see SPIN:
