Producer and import price index, March 2018:

Annual rate of producer prices increased in March

Producer prices in total increased by 1.2 percent between February and March 2018. In the same period last year, producer prices decreased by 0.1 percent. Thus, the annual rate increased from 2.8 to 4.0 percent between February and March 2018. From February and March, prices increased by 1.6 percent on the import market and on the export market under the influence of a weaker Swedish krona. On the domestic market, producer prices increased by 0.7 percent.

Domestic supply prices, that is, producer prices on the domestic and import markets together, increased by 1.2 percent from February to March.

Changes during the last month

Higher electricity prices had a major impact on the domestic, import and export markets. On the import market, the main contributor was increased prices on computer, electronic and optical products. Price increases on pulp, paper and paperboard was the main contributor to the increase on the export market. Furthermore, a weaker Swedish krona has positively affected prices on the import and export markets.

Changes during the last year

The annual rate of producer prices, that is producer prices on the domestic and export markets together, increased by 4.0 percent. In the same period, prices increased by 5.0 percent on the import market and by 4.2 percent on the export market. On the domestic market, prices increased by 4.0 percent. Domestic supply prices increased by 4.5 percent on an annual basis.

Changes in exchange rates from February to March

An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency has a tendency to lower or raise export and import prices in Swedish krona. According to Swedish Customs’ exchange rates, the Swedish krona depreciated against the US dollar by 1.7 percent, against the euro and the Danish krona by 1.5 percent, against the Norwegian krona by 1.0 percent and against the British pound by 0.6 percent.
