Producer prices increased in September 2017

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2017-10-26 9.30

Producer prices increased by 0.4 percent between August and September. In the same period, prices increased by 0.4 percent on the export as well as on the import market. Prices on the domestic market increased by 0.6 percent.

Domestic supply, that is, producer prices on the domestic and import markets together, increased by 0.4 percent from August to September.

Changes during the last month

Higher prices on electricity, waste collection services and, a seasonal normal upturn on district heating, contributed to the increase on the domestic market. On the export market, mainly higher prices for electricity contributed to the upturn, which was offset some by lower prices for basic metals. Higher prices for crude oil gave the largest contributed to the upturn on the import market.

Changes during the last year

In the last year, producer prices, that is producer prices on the domestic and export markets together, have increased by 4.3 percent. In the same period, prices on the import and the export market increased by 4.7 percent and by 3.6 percent, respectively. On the domestic market, prices increased by 4.9 percent. Prices for domestic supply increased by 4.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

Changes in exchange rates from August to September

An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency has a tendency to lower or raise export and import prices in Swedish kronor. According to Swedish Customs exchange rates, the Swedish krona appreciated against the British pound by 3.7 percent, against the US dollar by 2.2 percent, against the euro as well as the Danish Krone by 0.3 percent and against the Norwegian krone by 0.1 percent.

New product classification

Producer and Import Price Index is published according to both SPIN 2007 and SPIN 2015 in the statistical database. Both product classifications will be available during 2017 and 2018. In 2019, price indices will only be available according to SPIN 2015. Users are recommended to start using SPIN 2015 when it is available.
