Service prices rose in the first quarter of 2018

The Service Producer Price Index increased by 0.4 percent from the fourth quarter of 2017 to the first quarter of 2018. The corresponding figure in the fourth quarter was 0 percent. Since the first quarter of 2017, the Service Producer Price Index has increased by 0.8 percent. The corresponding annual rate in the previous quarter was 1.2 percent.
As from this publication, the statistical news will be based on SPIN 2015 classification, with base year 2015=100.
Changes during the last quarter
The main upward contributors in the quarter were higher prices for freight transport services by road, other transportation support services, architectural and engineering services and related technical consulting services and cleaning services. These service groups contributed 0.1 percentage point each. The quarterly rise was offset by declining prices for hotel and similar accommodation services, publishing services and advertising services, which contributed downward by 0.1 percentage point each.

Definitions and explanations
New product classification
The Service Producer Index is reported in accordance with both SPIN 2007 and SPIN 2015 in the statistical database. Both product classifications will be available during 2018. In 2019, price indices will only be available in accordance with SPIN 2015. Users are recommended to start using SPIN 2015. The differences between the two classifications are minor.
