Increased household consumption

Household consumption increased by 1.1 percent in seasonally adjusted figures between September and October. In the period from August to October, consumption increased by 0.2 percent compared with the period from May to July. Household consumption increased by 3.3 percent in volume and working day adjusted figures in October 2016 compared with October 2015.

From 2013 and onwards Statistics Sweden produces new monthly statistics on household consumption. These statistics are an important indicator for the business cycle, since household consumption accounts for 47 percent of the total gross domestic product (GDP). The statistics are experimental.

Household consumption increased by 3.3 percent in volume and working day adjusted figures in October 2016 compared with October 2015. Recreation and culture, goods and services increased by 9.0 percent in volume and working day adjusted figures compared with the same period in the previous year. In the period from August to October 2016, the consumption volume increased by 2.4 percent compared with the same period in the previous year. Prices according to the consumption deflator increased by 0.7 percent in October 2016 compared with October 2015.
