Increase in restaurant sales in fourth quarter 2021

The restaurant sales volume increased by 54.9 percent in the fourth quarter compared with the same period a year ago. The largest increase in sales volume, 141.4 percent, was among hotel restaurants.
Personnel restaurants recorded the second largest increase, 86.0 percent, compared with the fourth quarter 2020.
Turnover generated by restaurants increased by 59.1 percent in current prices in the fourth quarter compared with the same quarter last year.
- The results show a recovery in the restaurant sector from historically low levels during the first year of the pandemic. But total sales in the sector during 2021 were still below those of 2019, says Jonas Rutberg, statistician at Statistics Sweden.
