Stronger trade in imports of goods in February compared with January

In February 2024, exports of goods remained unchanged in both value and volume compared with the same period a year ago. At the same time, imports of goods decreased by 1 percent in value while they increased by 1 percent in volume.

– Exports of iron ore and concentrates deceased both in terms of value and volume, compared with last year and last month, says Jason Oljelund, statistician at Statistics Sweden.

Compared with the previous month, Swedish exports of goods increased by 2 percent in value and by 1 percent in volume. At the same time, Swedish imports of goods increased by 4 percent in value and by 2 percent in volume. The number of weekdays in February 2024 was one fewer than in January 2024.

Exports of minerals decreased by 15 percent in value and by 11 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, exports of iron ore and concentrates decreased by 79 percent in value and by 80 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, exports of iron ore and concentrates decreased by 38 percent in value and by 41 percent in volume.

Exports of chemicals/rubber products increased by 1 percent in value and by 3 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, exports of pharmaceuticals products increased by 4 percent in both value and volume.

Exports of machinery and transport equipment products increased by 5 percent in value and by 2 percent in volume, compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, exports of passenger cars increased by 13 percent in value and by 11 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, exports of passenger cars increased by 7 percent in value and by 4 percent in volume.

Imports of wood and paper products decreased by 2 percent in value while they increased by 13 percent volume compared with the same period last year. Compared with the previous month, imports of wood and paper products increased by 13 percent in both value and volume.

Imports of mineral fuels and electric current decreased by 5 percent in value and by 1 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, imports of petroleum products decreased by 34 percent in value and by 28 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, imports of petroleum products decreased by 17 percent in value and by 12 percent in volume.

Imports of machinery/transport equipment increased by 1 percent in value while they remained unchanged in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, imports of electronics/telecommunication increased by 11 percent in value and by 14 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, imports of electronics/telecommunication increased by 7 percent in value and by 4 percent in volume.
