Trade with goods increased in fourth quarter

In the period January–December 2016 Swedish exports of goods increased 1 percent and imports of goods 3 percent compared with the same period last year.
In the period January–December 2016, the value of Swedish exports amounted to SEK 1 194 billion. This is an increase of 1 percent compared with the same period last year. At the same time, imports of goods were up 3 percent and amounted to SEK 1 204 billion. This resulted in a net trade deficit of SEK 10 billion. The net trade surplus for the same period in 2015 was SEK 13 billion.
In the fourth quarter, both Sweden’s exports and imports of goods rose by 8 percent compared with the same period last year. The fourth quarter was strongest also in terms of value for both exports and imports.
Detailed information for January–December 2016:
Exports of goods to Germany rose 5 percent
Sweden’s exports of goods to the EU 28 were up by 2 percent and imports from there by 5 percent compared with the same period last year. Exports to the euro countries rose by 5 percent and imports from those countries rose by 6 percent. Among the EU countries, exports to Germany increased by 5 percent and to Denmark by 3 percent while exports to the UK decreased by 15 percent. Imports from Germany rose by 9 percent and from Denmark by 1 percent, while imports from the UK were down 4 percent.
Exports to other European countries increased by 1 percent, while imports from there decreased by 1 percent. Exports to Norway were up 2 percent and imports from there were up by 4 percent. Exports to Russia remained the same, while imports from there decreased by 18 percent.
Both exports to and imports from Asia remained the same. Exports to China rose by 2 percent, while imports from there fell by 5 percent.
Exports to the US decreased by 4 percent and imports from there decreased by 1 percent.
Exports of passenger cars up 21 percent
Exports of machinery and transport equipment increased by 2 percent. Within this product area, exports of passenger cars increased by 21 percent. Exports of minerals were up 1 percent. Exports of wood and paper products fell by 1 percent and mineral fuels and electric current fell by 8 percent. Exports of chemicals and rubber products were down 1 percent. Within the other products group, food, beverages and tobacco increased by 10 percent.
Imports of road vehicles up 15 percent
Imports of machinery and transport equipment increased by 5 percent. Within this product area, imports of road vehicles increased by 15 percent. Imports of minerals rose by 2 percent and wood and paper products rose by 7 percent. Imports of chemicals and rubber products fell by 1 percent. Mineral fuels and electric current decreased by 6 percent. Within this product area, crude oil was down 15 percent. Imports of other products increased by 6 percent. Within this product group, food, beverages and tobacco increased by 9 percent.
