Strong first six months for foreign trade with goods

In the first six months of 2017 Swedish exports of goods increased 12 percent and imports of goods increased 11 percent in current prices compared with the same period last year.
In the period January–June 2017, the value of Swedish exports amounted to SEK 653 billion. This is an increase of 12 percent compared with the same period last year. At the same time, imports of goods were up by 11 percent and amounted to SEK 650 billion. This resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 3 billion. The net trade surplus for the same period in 2016 was SEK 1 billion.
Swedish exports and imports of goods rose strongly both in the first and the second quarter. In terms of value, both exports and imports were somewhat stronger in the second quarter.
Detailed information for January–June 2017
Exports of goods to China rose 33 percent
Sweden’s exports of goods to the EU 28 were up by 11 percent, and imports from there rose by 10 percent compared with the same period last year. Exports to the euro countries increased by 12 percent and imports from there rose by 10 percent. Among the EU countries, exports to Germany increased by 13 percent, to Denmark by 8 percent, and to the UK 16 percent. Imports from both Germany and the UK rose by 10 percent, and from Denmark by 11 percent.
Exports to other European countries increased by 12 percent, and imports from there were up by 19 percent. Exports to Norway rose by 10 percent, and imports from there were up by 14 percent. Exports to Russia were up by 37 percent, and imports from there rose by 38 percent.
Exports to Asia rose by 21 percent, and imports from there were up by 7 percent. Exports to China increased by 33 percent, and imports from there rose by 8 percent.
Exports to the US decreased by 2 percent, while imports from there increased by 3 percent.
Exports of minerals up 27 percent
Exports of machinery and transport equipment increased by 9 percent. Within this product area, road vehicles increased by 16 percent. Exports of minerals were up by 27 percent. Exports of wood and paper products rose by 7 percent and mineral fuels and electric current rose by 35 percent. Exports of chemicals and rubber products were up by 12 percent. Within this product area, pharmaceutical products rose by 16 percent. Within the other products group, food, beverages and tobacco increased by 5 percent.
Imports of crude oil up 54 percent
Imports of machinery and transport equipment increased by 8 percent. Within this product area, road vehicles increased by 11 percent. Imports of minerals rose by 24 percent. Within this product area, iron and steel were up by 32 percent. Imports of wood and paper products rose by 9 percent and chemicals and rubber products rose by 7 percent. Mineral fuels and electric current increased by 43 percent. Within this product area, crude oil was up by 54 percent. Imports of other products increased by 6 percent.
