Net trade balance at SEK 2.8 billion in May

In May 2017, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 114.0 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 111.2 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK 2.8 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 2.8 billion in May 2017 according to preliminary calculations. In May 2016, there was a net trade deficit of SEK 3.6 billion.
The value of exports in May 2017 amounted to SEK 114.0 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 111.2 billion. Compared with May 2016, exports increased by 18 percent in value, while imports increased by 11 percent in value.
Trade with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 15.1 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 12.3 billion.
The number of weekdays in May 2017 was the same as in May 2016.
Seasonally adjusted, the net trade deficit amounted to SEK 0.5 billion in May 2017, compared with a deficit of SEK 0.8 billion in April 2017. The corresponding figure for March 2017 was a deficit of SEK 1.2 billion.

Definitions and explanations
Last month’s import and export values in trade with the EU are estimates based on data provided by a large subset of companies that trade with the EU. Most (95 percent) of the deviation between these estimates and the subsequent outcome lies within the range of SEK -2 billion and SEK 1 billion for both imports and exports.
Import and export values for trade in goods with non-EU countries are based largely on data from Swedish Customs.
