Research and Development - Regional and International Statistics 2021

During 2021, Sweden was the fourth most R&D intensive country in the world according to data from the OECD. This means Sweden has lost a position compared to previous years. At the same time, intramural R&D expenditure has increased in a majority of counties in Sweden compared to 2019. R&D in Sweden is highly concentrated to the counties where you find the tree largest cities. These counties answered for 73 percent of the total intramural R&D expenditure in Sweden during 2021.
