  • Many foreign-born people have been educated in Sweden

    In 2024, there were 1.7 million people aged 16–65 in Sweden who were born abroad. This corresponds to a quarter of the population of the same age. A large proportion of them, at least 80 percent, have participated in some form of education in Sweden and 60 percent are established in the labour market.

  • Adult’s skills continue to compare well internationally

    The 2023 results show that Sweden continues to compare well when it comes to the Swedish population’s skills. In all domains of skills – literacy, numeracy and problem solving – Sweden’s adult population achieves higher average scores compared to the average for participating OECD countries. At the same time, there are still major differences in the population eleven years on. A significant proportion of the population still lack skills.

  • Adult skills stand up well internationally

    On a total scale, Sweden is above average for participating countries in the international survey PIAAC when it comes to literacy and numeracy, and in top place when it comes to problem solving with the aid of computers. At the same time, differences are considerable in the population. A rather large share lies at a low level within these areas of knowledge.
