  • Highest income mobility among the young

    There are differences in income mobility across age groups. Mobility is highest among the youngest, aged 20–29. The oldest group, aged 80 and above, has the lowest income mobility, In the oldest age group, there is no difference in income mobility between women and men.

  • Income inequality has increased since the 1990s

    There has been a trend of increasing income inequality since 1991. The highest income groups have had a greater increase in income than the lowest groups. However, without capital income, the differences are smaller.

  • Lower economic standard also in 2023

    For the second year in a row, the economic standard fell in 2023, due to inflation. Compared to 2022, the decrease in the median value was 1.4 percent. The share with a low economic standard decreased in the population over 64 years of age and among children, but increased in other groups.

  • Increasing share with persistently low income

    The share of people aged 20–64 with persistently low income has increased in recent years. The share of women with persistently low income was 36 percent in 2022, compared to 35 percent for men. The corresponding shares in 2019, before the pandemic, were 32 and 31 percent, respectively.

  • Lower economic standard

    For the first time since the 1990s, the economic standard fell in 2022. The reason is inflation, which was higher than the increase in income.
