  • Autumn-sown areas of cereals and oilseed crops are 13 percent less than 2022

This year’s autumn-sowing of cereals and oilseed crops amounted to 571 100 hectares. It is 13 percent less than 2022 and 7 percent less than the average in the past five years. One of the reasons for the reduction is that many farmers have not been able to autumn-sow as planned in parts of the country due to wet fields after this autumn´s heavy rainfall.

  • Autumn sown areas on record level again

This year’s autumn sowing of cereals and oilseed crops amounted to 652 800 hectares. It is 13 percent more than average in the past five years and on the same record level as in the autumn 2020. Dry conditions during autumn hampered establishment of autumn sown oilseed crops, why some areas were resown with other autumn sown crops. Winter wheat accounted for more than 70 percent of this year’s total autumn sown acreage.

  • Large autumn sown acreage despite rainy autumn

This year’s autumn sowing of cereals and oilseed crops amounted to 605 400 hectares. This verges on last autumn’s record acreage and is 6 percent more than the average in the past five years. Despite this, many farmers were not able to autumn sow the full planned areas, as the fields have been too wet to support the machinery. Winter wheat accounted for almost 70 percent of this year’s total autumn sown acreage.

  • Largest winter wheat acreage ever

This year’s autumn sowing of cereals and oilseed crops amounted to 638 300 hectares, which is 8 percent more than last autumn’s acreage and 16 percent more than the last five-year average. This increase is mainly due to a record winter wheat acreage. Just below 72 percent of the total autumn sown acreage this year was winter wheat.

  • Large autumn sown areas again this year

This year’s autumn sowing of cereals and oilseed crops amounted to 588 500 hectares. This is 9 percent more than the average acreage in the past five years and on a level with the large autumn areas sown a year ago. This year as well, it was possible to harvest most of the crops early. This gave many farmers an opportunity to prepare the land for autumn sowing, which they did to a large extent.
