  • Discharges continues to decrease

    Statistics Sweden’s latest statistics show that the discharges of phosphorous and nitrogen have decreased since 2018. Discharges to water via municipal wastewater treatment plants have decreased during a longer period.

  • Discharges of phosphorous have increased

    In 2018, total discharges of nutrients to water via municipal wastewater treatment plants subject to authorisation amounted to 270 tonnes of phosphorous, 15 000 tonnes of nitrogen, 6 500 tonnes of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD7), and 40 500 tonnes of chemical oxygen demand (COD-Cr), including some wastewater overflow at the plants.

  • Discharges via municipal wastewater treatment plants has decreased

    In 2016, total discharges of nutrients to water via municipal wastewater treatment plants subject to authorisation amounted to 240 tonnes of phosphorus, 15 400 tonnes of nitrogen, 6 600 tonnes of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD7) and 35 300 tonnes of chemical oxygen demand (COD-Cr), including some wastewater overflow at the wastewater treatment plants.
