Production of cereals, dried pulses and oilseeds 2022. Preliminary statistics for counties and the whole country

Favourable season for spring-sown cereal crops – record crop production of oilseed rape and turnip rape

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2022-12-14 8.00

For the country as a whole, the crop production for spring-sown cereal crops increased by between 36 percent and 46 percent compared with last year. The regional harvest statistics for 2022 show though that in the county of Kalmar, drought conditions hampered crop yields this year also.

The total cereal production amounted to 5.8 million tonnes, which is 17 percent more than a year ago, despite that winter conditions hampered autumn-sown crops. Some autumn-sown acreage needed to be resown with spring-sown crops. However, favourable season for spring-sown cereal crops resulted in good yields. In the county of Skåne the yield per hectare for spring-sown barley was at record.

Total production of oilseed rape and turnip rape at record level

At national level, the yield per hectare of winter rape was 4 percent higher than in 2021. Skåne County accounted for the largest cultivation area, and the yield per hectare of winter rape was at record level. The preliminary estimate of the total production of oilseed rape and turnip rape is 426 600 tonnes, which is the highest ever.

Yield per hectare of peas increased

In 2022, the yield per hectare of peas was 43 percent higher than a year ago and 21 percent above the five-year average. The total production of peas is estimated at 86 200 tonnes, which is 54 percent more than a year ago. In 2022, the largest crop areas of peas were in Uppsala and in Västra Götaland counties.

Yield per hectare of field beans increased also

The yield per hectare of field beans was 48 percent higher than a year ago. The total production is estimated at 79 000 tonnes, which is 62 percent more than a year ago and 27 percent above the five-year average.

Winter conditions hampered autumn-sown crops

Unfavourable winter conditions hampered the autumn-sown crops. Crop yields were affected in several counties, among them in Uppsala, Värmland, Västmanland and Dalarna, where winter wheat crop yields were reduced by the harsh winter weather.
