Structure of the horticultural production sector

Official statistics of Sweden

Upcoming publishing: 2024-07-04

These statistics cover structural aspects of the Swedish horticultural production by showing for instance open ground production and greenhouse areas, number of holdings, employment, manager age distribution and the prevalence of other agricultural production in the horticultural holdings.

Apart from numbers for the whole of Sweden, the statistics are generally presented by county, form of production (open ground or greenhouse production) and crop, and in some cases by the size of the producing holdings (as measured by area).

The statistics are produced every third year and cover all Swedish holdings with professional production of horticultural plants on at least 0,25 hectares of open ground or 200 square meters of greenhouse area. By ”horticultural plants” we mean vegetables, fresh herbs and pulses, fruit, berries and ornamental plants. In contrast, potatoes, dried or conserved herbs or pulses and nursery plants for forestry are not included.
