Household consumption decreased in March 2025

Household consumption decreased by 0.4 percent in March 2025, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, compared with February 2025. Compared with March 2024, household consumption increased by 1.8 percent, measured in constant prices and working day adjusted figures. In the first quarter of the year, consumption increased by 1.5 percent compared with the same period a year ago, measured in constant prices and working day adjusted figures. Compared with the fourth quarter of 2024, consumption increased by 0.7 percent, measured in seasonally adjusted figures.

Sector Housing, electricity, gas and heating, which is weighted highest in the monthly indicator, decreased by 1.4 percent compared with February, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, and increased by 0.3 percent compared with March 2024.

Compared with February, consumption in sector Retail trade, mostly food and beverages, which is the second largest sector, was unchanged. On a year-on-year basis, consumption increased by 1.9 percent, measured in constant prices and working day adjusted figures. Measured in constant prices, but not working day adjusted figures, consumption decreased by 4.7 percent. The reason for the large calendar effect is that Easter was in March last year and in April this year.
