Increased sales of food and beverages

Swedish sales of food and beverages reached SEK 242 billion during 2013. This is an increase of SEK 8 billion compared to 2012 and corresponds to an increase of 3.4 percent. This increase stemmed from an increase in sales volumes of 1.5 percent and price increases of food and beverages of 1.9 percent during the year.
Increased share of organic products
Organic products accounted for 4.3 percent of all sales of food and non-alcoholic beverages in Sweden in 2013. This is an increase of 0.4 percentage points compared to 2012. However, the sales value increased by almost 13 percent. The proportion of organic sales is largest within the product group fish, where organic sales account for 9.4 percent of the total sales value.
Increased prices and lower sales volumes of meat
Sales of meat reached SEK 35 billion during 2013, an increase in sales value of 2.2 percent compared to 2012. However, the sales volumes of meat have decreased by around 1 percent during the year, implying that the increase in sales value stems from an increase in prices of around 3 percent.
Increased food sales per capita
Swedish food sales increased from SEK 24 442 per capita to SEK 25 039 per capita between 2012 and 2013. On average, Swedes bought fruit for SEK 22 per week, which is less than the per capita sales of sweets which reached SEK 35 per week in 2013.
