Net trade balance at SEK -5.3 billion in August

In August 2024, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 150.3 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 155.6 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK -5.3 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade deficit of SEK 5.3 billion in August 2024, according to preliminary calculations. In August 2023, there was a net trade deficit of SEK 7.8 billion.
The value of exports in August 2024 was SEK 150.3 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 155.6 billion. The corresponding values for August 2023 were SEK 158.4 billion for exports and SEK 166.2 billion for imports. Exports of goods have thus decreased by 5 percent in value, while imports have decreased by 6 percent in value compared with August 2023. The number of weekdays in August 2024 was one less compared with August 2023.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 15.0 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 20.3 billion.

Seasonally adjusted, net trade showed a surplus of SEK 6.9 billion in August, compared with a surplus of SEK 6.8 billion in July. The corresponding figure for June was a surplus of SEK 6.6 billion.
Net trade (January – August 2024) showed a surplus of SEK 53.4 billion
During the last eight months, the value of exports of goods remained the same while the value of imports of goods decreased by 2 percent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 1362.7 billion and imports were valued at SEK 1309.3 billion, resulting in a net trade surplus of SEK 53.4 billion for January - August 2024. The corresponding net trade balance for these months one year earlier was a surplus of SEK 28.1 billion.
