Net trade balance at SEK 0.4 billion in January

In January 2022, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 142.9 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 142.5 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK 0.4 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 0.4 billion in January 2022, according to preliminary calculations. In January 2021, there was a net trade surplus of SEK 4.2 billion.
The value of exports in January 2022 was SEK 142.9 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 142.5 billion. The corresponding values in January 2021 were SEK 114.2 billion for exports and SEK 110.0 billion for imports. Exports of goods have thus increased by 25 percent in value and imports have increased by 30 percent in value compared with January 2021. The number of weekdays in January 2022 was one more compared with January 2021.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 11.2 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 10.8 billion. As from February 2020, the United Kingdom no longer forms part of the group EU Member States and is included, instead, in the group Non-EU Member States.
Seasonally adjusted, net trade showed a deficit of SEK 0.2 billion in January, compared with a surplus of SEK 1.5 billion in December. The corresponding figure for November was a surplus of SEK 2.9 billion.
Net trade (Nov 2021 – Jan 2022) showed a deficit of SEK 5.0 billion
In this period, the value of exports of goods increased by 23 percent and the value of imports of goods increased by 26 percent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 443.9 billion and imports were valued at SEK 448.9 billion, resulting in a net trade deficit of SEK 5.0 billion for November 2021 - January 2022. The corresponding net trade balance for these months one year earlier was a surplus of SEK 6.8 billion.
