Net trade balance at SEK 2.9 billion in May

In May 2026, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 180.8 billion, and imports of goods amounted to SEK 177.9 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK 2.9 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 2.9 billion in May 2026, according to preliminary calculations. In May 2025, there was a net trade deficit of SEK 0.1 billion.
The value of exports in May 2026 was SEK 180.8 billion, and imports were valued at SEK 177.9 billion. The corresponding values for May 2025 were SEK 165.9 billion for exports and SEK 166.0 billion for imports. Exports of goods have thus increased by 9 percent in value and imports have increased by 7 percent in value compared with May 2025. The number of weekdays in May 2026 was one less compared with May 2025.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 19.5 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 16.6 billion.
Seasonally adjusted, net trade showed a surplus of SEK 0.7 billion in May, compared with a surplus of SEK 0.6 billion in April. The corresponding figure for March was a surplus of SEK 0.8 billion.

Net trade (January – May 2026) showed a surplus of SEK 7.5 billion
During the last five months, the value of exports of goods increased by 1 percent and the value of imports of goods increased by 5 percent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 883.6 billion and imports were valued at SEK 876.1 billion. The net trade for January – May 2026 thus resulted in a surplus of SEK 7.5 billion. The corresponding net trade balance for these months one year earlier was a surplus of SEK 36.1 billion.
