Business inventories increased in the first quarter of 2023

Swedish business inventories increased by SEK 16.4 billion in constant prices in the first quarter. This development corresponds to an increase of 2.9 percent in volume.
This is a corrected version of the Statistical news that was published 2023-05-17. The correction affects the figures of industrial inventories (NACE Rev. 2: 05–33) as well as aggregates where those industrial classification codes are included (B+C+G, B+C, B, C and the five Main industrial groupings).
The following inventory types are affected by the correction: products in progress, finished goods, goods for resale and the total.
Total inventories in industry increased by SEK 10.9 billion in the first quarter, which corresponds to an increase of 4.0 percent in volume. Inventories in trade increased by SEK 5.5 billion in the first quarter, which corresponds to an increase of 1.8 percent in volume.
Industrial inventories increased
Inventories of products in progress, finished goods and goods for resale increased by SEK 8.4 billion and inventories of raw materials and consumables increased by SEK 2.5 billion. This means that total inventories in industry increased by SEK 10.9 billion in the first quarter.
Trade inventories increased
Inventories in trade increased by SEK 5.5 billion in the first quarter. The largest increase was noted in wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, in which inventories increased by SEK 3.0 billion. Inventories in wholesale trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by SEK 1.5 billion, while inventories in retail trade, excluding motor vehicles increased by SEK 1.0 billion.
Revisions
The figures for the first quarter 2023 are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the development in total industrial inventories in the fourth quarter 2022 has been revised upwards by SEK 1.2 billion to an increase of SEK 1.8 billion. Total trade inventories in the fourth quarter 2022 have been revised upwards by SEK 1.7 billion to a decrease of SEK 9.6 billion.
