Nominated and elected candidates, 2022

Gender distribution in politics most uneven among young and older people

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2023-02-27 8.00

After the 2022 elections to the Riksdag, county councils and municipal councils, basically the same gender disparities remain as before the elections. Women are underrepresented among young representatives, there are also an uneven distribution among older politicians. There are clear differences between the parties and a large local variation.

Statistics Sweden is now publishing its survey on the candidates who were nominated and elected in the 2022 general elections. Corresponding statistics on the population entitled to vote are being published at the same time. The survey on nominated and elected candidates describes how representative our elected political bodies are based on gender, age, family situation, country of birth, education, and income level.
