In 2024, Sweden devoted 8% of its GDP to education. Total expenditure on education amounted to SEK 512 billion, with nearly 70% accounted for by children and students in the school system covering preschool through upper secondary levels.
The National Agency for Education annually publishes Costs for the school system and other educational activities, which includes statistics broken down by type of cost for primary and secondary schools.
Official statistics on the school system are also available on the Swedish National Agency for Education's website, where it’s possible to search for cost in total, by type of cost, by municipality/region and at national level.
