R&D performance in the government sector unchanged

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2022-11-17 8.00

Government sector R&D performance was broadly unchanged compared to 2019. Female R&D-personnel spent more on research than male R&D personnel.

Government expenditure on R&D amounted to just over SEK 8.2 billion in 2021. In total, the employed R&D-personnel consisted of 5,723 full-time equivalents in R&D activities, of which women accounted for 2,929 and men for 2,794 full-time equivalents. The number of headcounts working in R&D decreased compared to 2019, while the number of full-time equivalents increased. This suggests that staff spent more of their working time on research in 2021.
