Fund assets are increasing after a previous decline
Statistical news from Statistics Sweden and Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority 2025-08-22 8.00
At the end of the second quarter of 2025, the total assets in Swedish funds amounted to SEK 8,250 billion. This represents an increase of SEK 497 billion, equivalent to 6.4% compared to the previous quarter.
"The total fund assets have fully recovered after the decline we saw in the first quarter," says statistician Nils-Henrik Jansson at Statistics Sweden’s Financial Market Statistics section.
Important information
From the publication for the fourth quarter of 2024 onwards, the data has been enriched with custodian data to better describe household fund holdings, which were previously partly under financial corporations. Revisions of previously published series have been made up to and including the first quarter of 2024. As a result of this change, Statistics Sweden will not report transactions in fund units for households and financial corporations, as well as households' fund holdings in individual pension savings (IPS).
Development for the second quarter in brief:
- Investment funds' holdings in shares increased by 6.1 percent (from SEK 323 billion to SEK 5,638 billion).
- "Following the decline in the first quarter, fund assets have recovered and now slightly exceed the previous peak from Q4 2024. This is mainly explained by the general upswing in the stock market during the period," says Nils-Henrik Jansson.
- Net investments in equity funds were negative, just as in the previous quarter. Current quarter: –SEK 38 billion, previous quarter: –SEK 24 billion.
- "For investment funds as a whole, we still see positive net savings (SEK 3.6 billion), something we've observed every quarter since Q2 2022. Just like in the previous quarter, we’re seeing clear outflows from North American funds," says Nils-Henrik Jansson.
Exchange rate of the krona
The average exchange rate for one Euro during the quarter was SEK 10.95 compared to SEK 11.23 during the previous quarter. The average exchange rate for one US dollar was SEK 9.67 compared to SEK 10.80 in the previous quarter.
Number of active funds in the statistics
During the second quarter, three previously active funds were discontinued or absorbed. In total, there were 846 active Swedish funds.
