Life insurance companies’ assets decrease by almost 10 percent

Life insurance companies’ assets were valued at just over SEK 5 700 billion at the end of 2022, which is a decrease by 9.8 percent compared to 2021.

Life insurance companies’ assets were valued at SEK 5 784 billion at the end of 2022, which is SEK 627 million less than the previous year. This can be compared to the strong results from 2021 when assets had increased with over 20 percent compared to 2020.

Investment assets in which the insurance holder carries the investment risk accounted for 55 percent of the decrease.

In 2022 occupational pension companies starts to be included in the statistics. Revisions have been made from 2021.

Premiums and assets of non-life insurance companies

National non-life insurance companies’ net premiums written amounted to SEK 89 billion, an increase by SEK 10 billion compared with the previous year. Total assets amounted to SEK 587 billion, compared with SEK 601 billion in 2021.

Large local non-life insurance companies reported net premiums written of about SEK 26 billion. The corresponding figure in 2021 was SEK 25 billion. The balance sheet total was SEK 160 billion, about SEK 8 billion less than the previous year. Results from insurance operations of large local life insurance companies amounted to just over SEK 1 billion, compared with 2021, when results from insurance operations amounted to just over SEK 70 million.
